Turning Knowledge into Enterprise

Mama Mia!!

Hastings-based The Green IT Company headed to Greece to attend and deliver the opening keynote presentation at Greece’s first ever GreenIT event held last month. The company presented to 500 delegates from Greek communications and technology companies as well as representatives of the Greek Government.

Adam Clamp, GreenIT Consultant and founder of The Green IT Company said: "It’s fantastic to be asked to go to another country and talk to a mixture of people representing different sectors, about how they can reduce the impact of their computer systems and the benefits it can make to their business.

We were dubious about going at first due to carbon emissions associated with travel. We checked travelling by boat and ferry but when you are a small company, six days travel is just too long. We flew, but offset our carbon emissions and donated to a tree planting scheme to sequestrate the CO2 emissions produced in our trip.”

The impact of technology on the environment is a stark reality and global carbon emissions produced by the IT industry are fast rivalling those of the aviation industry, and much of this is due to the inefficient use of technology. Using technology in a more environmentally focussed manner can not only help reduce carbon emissions and save energy but it makes good business sense, as it can help to save businesses a lot of money.
